# Utility Tokens Explained

> What a utility token is, how it differs from other digital assets, and why GMRX is one.

A **utility token** is a type of digital token whose value comes from what you can *do* with it inside a particular project or platform.

## The "access pass" idea

The easiest way to think about a utility token is as a digital **access pass** or voucher. Holding it might let you:

    Receive better pricing within the ecosystem.

    Take part in certain governance or roadmap decisions.
  </Card>

<Note>
  The key idea: a utility token's value is tied to its **practical use** inside the project, not to ownership of the company or rights to profit.
</Note>

## How GMRX fits

GMRX is designated as a utility token. Inside the GAIMIN ecosystem it is used to earn rewards, access deals and discounts, and unlock benefits, and at the Royal tier, it even ties into roadmap voting. Its role is practical and use-based. [See what you can do with GMRX →](/what-is-gmrx)
